1951 King Silver Sonic Cornet - FLAWLESS

It's not too often you get an instrument into the shop in this quality from 70 plus years ago!  This horn appears to be original finish, and original corks, felts, and such on the instrument.  I think this has been sitting unplayed for many years, and what an opportunity for you to get a great USA-made cornet that looks like this!

Specifications

  • Manufacturer: H.N. White Company (Cleveland, Ohio)
  • Model / Line: King Master Model / Silver-Sonic (Model 1065-S equivalent)
  • Key: B-Flat
  • Bore Size: 0.458 inches (Medium bore)
  • Bell Diameter: 4.625 inches
  • Bell Material: Solid sterling silver (often featuring hand-engraved floral patterns)
  • Body Material: Brass with clear oven-baked lacquer finish
  • Valves: 3 top-action nickel-plated/brass pistons (historical early-1950s style with octagonal valve caps)
  • Tuning Features: Equipped with a micro-adjustment tuning system (micro-tuner) on the main tuning slide
  • Leadpipe: Silver leadpipe as well on this specific instrument

Playing Characteristics

  • Rich Overtones & Core: Unlike standard brass bells, sterling silver creates a denser, more resonant core sound. It delivers a massive array of upper overtones, giving the player a "bell-like brilliance" when pushed, without losing its warm center.
  • Dynamic Range: It handles immense volume without breaking up or distorting, making it highly responsive to aggressive playing while retaining a velvety softness at lower dynamics
  • It plays like a hybrid between a traditional cornet and a trumpet.
  • It offers the tight, nimble "finesse instrument" handling of a cornet but projects forward with excellent clarity and laser-accurate target slotting, making it a legendary choice for traditional jazz, dixieland, and swing musicians.
  • The mechanical addition of the micro-tuner on the leadpipe significantly alters the workflow. Instead of pulling or pushing the main tuning slide—which disrupts the internal air columns and can alter slotting—players use the precision screw wheel to make minute fractional adjustments on the fly. This gives the horn incredibly stable intonation across the registers without forcing the player to "lip" or favor notes.

Comes with original case, case cover, King MC cornet mouthpiece, and a cleaning rod.  Don't miss out on this opportunity!  Someone is going to be extremely happy with this instrument!
