The CHI Brass Arnold Jacobs 1 is a U.S.-made reproduction of the first Helleberg mouthpiece Arnold Jacobs purchased as a student. This is the mouthpiece he used more than any other throughout his legendary career.
Jacobs valued this design so highly that he had two copies made during the 1980s, both stamped Arnold Jacobs 1. These copies are now owned by Brian Frederiksen, author of Arnold Jacobs: Song and Wind.
While the original mouthpiece was thought to be lost in the early 1990s, it eventually resurfaced thanks to one of Jacobs' prominent students. This rediscovery allowed CHI Brass to faithfully reproduce this historically significant design. The CHI version preserves the essential dimensions and playing characteristics, while incorporating a modern shank and slightly increased exterior weight for enhanced performance.
The Jacobs 1 delivers a clear, responsive Helleberg-style sound with outstanding projection and flexibility. Its compact inner diameter ensures efficiency while maintaining the depth and tonal character expected from a traditional Helleberg design.
