The Floyd Cooley 1 is based on an excellent example from the first group of Helleberg-style mouthpieces Floyd Cooley had produced in the 1990s. Developed by CHI Brass in partnership with Windsong Press, it represents the smaller end of the Helleberg spectrum and incorporates Floyd's highly regarded rim design.
This mouthpiece is exceptionally useful for F and EEb tubas, while also providing a more compact, focused alternative for CC and BBb tubas.
The smaller cup and comfortable Cooley rim provide:
All while maintaining the tonal depth associated with a Helleberg.
The Floyd Cooley 1A combines the proven Floyd Cooley 1 design with CHI's smaller A shank. This version is particularly useful with instruments equipped with smaller receivers, including many Yamaha F tubas and other bass tubas requiring the smaller taper.
The cup, rim, and fundamental playing characteristics remain those of the Floyd Cooley 1.
The Floyd Cooley 1 Heavyweight retains the internal design of the standard Cooley 1 while adding the CHI heavyweight shell.
The additional mass provides:
It retains the quick response and excellent intonation characteristics of the original design. This version is particularly useful for players wanting the compact dimensions and efficiency of the Cooley 1 with a little more weight and stability in the sound.
