JR Helleberg Tuba Mouthpiece Description

The CHI Brass JR Helleberg mouthpiece is based on a custom design created for a Jacobs student in the early 1990s. This model is essentially a reimagining of an original 1930s Helleberg mouthpiece that Arnold Jacobs owned, which was originally intended for Eb tubas.

Key features include:

• Rim and upper cup: Identical to the original design.
• Lower cup: Shallower than the original.
• Throat and backbore: Smaller than the original.

This mouthpiece is an excellent choice for:

• Achieving a lighter yet characteristic Helleberg sound on large horns.
• Performances in solo or chamber music settings.
• Use with ¾ contrabass tubas or Eb and F tubas.
