The R Helleberg began as a design project for a prominent orchestral tubist who liked the large tonal character of the CHI JS Helleberg but wanted a smaller inner diameter and heavyweight construction.
The R retains the Sear-style rim concept, throat, shank and backbore characteristics of the JS while reducing the inner diameter and using a heavyweight shell.
The R provides much of the broad, powerful tonal character associated with the JS while offering a slightly more compact feel and greater stability from the heavyweight shell.
